Dear fellow Vernians,

Just for information, because I visited a limestone mine last
week-end with my family (in the Dresden-Meissen area in Germany).
The mine, which was closed in 1965, is a rather unknown cave-like
attraction and includes a lake for diving lessons and excursions.
The limestone is wonderful marble. The biggest cave section
with the lake and several big stone columns forms the natural
decoration of a small stage for diverse cultural events
(singer groups, puppet plays etc.). In November, the cave
will see a Jazz performance around the 1959 US film Journey
to the Center of the Earth. German comments on and pictures
of that performance held in Eisenach can be seen at the
following pages:

What the cave of the limestone mine looks like can be seen
at this address:

The "performance hall" will seat just about 100 people.
The temperature is 8°C. Air humidity is 95 per cent (a challenge
for musical instruments !!!)

I just thought it might be of interest to members of this
list. I was positively surprised and wanted to share that with
you (and I will go there with my son in November, because it
is just a couple of stone's throws away).

Have a nice week,

Ralf Tauchmann
