Some answers:
1) I haven't finished reading the book, so I'm not selling it... yet.
2) After a detailed reading I can say that undoubtedly this book has been written by a Frenchman; besides, the words in the illustrations are french ones.
3) Mr. Torstenson, this "obscure" sequel is not a hoax: the appearance of this so-called virus is just a coincidence.
4) Really this book is so interesting? So I have to buy a scanner soon as possible.
5) The sequel mentions Jules Verne!:
"-Certainly -says Santiago-, and it's enough to remember what has happened. By chance did the world of science excite when Barbicane, Michel Ardan and Nicholl began the wonderful voyage? Surely it make "noise" in America, and above all in Florida, because there was parades and feasts and speaches in order to honour that audacious explorers; but that enthusiasm stopped the next day and to conmemorate the memory it was necesary that a celebrated French author write the story of that incredible and epic journey, describing with his habitual talent their touching incidents. Without him, the whole fantastic story had quickly been forgotten and today it would be completely unknown."
