These names sound Danish (or perhaps Dutch)
to me. The name Vin Mod, if you change
it to Vind Mod, you have two danish words
meaning gain (or win) courage.

As to the other name, Flig means polite.
I don't know the word Balt but it could
perhaps mean fellow, young man or something.

I believe that Verne visited Denmark so
he might have picked up some words there
that he liked.
