Hello!
About "ingeniéur des mines", I am pretty sure it is a
title, in english it have to be "mining engineer", but
I don't know how far Badoureau was from being titled
"civil engineer". As I know you can read swedish, I
can tell you the title here is "bergsingenjör". I knew
3 or 4 persons with that title, and no-one of them
have made any steps into a real mine!
But we cannot exclude A. Badoureau really worked at a
mine; I do recall there was some mines north of
Amiens. Is that wrong?
I am really happy that you make this translation. Did
Jules Verne pay for this "chapitre supplementaire" by
himself?
Best regards
Peter Harold
