Dear Zvi,

Do you want the real Flemish/Dutch pronunciation, or the way JV himself
would have pronounced it?

I'll give you the Flemish pronunciation:

> In particular, I wonder about the final E in family names like "Van
> Trikasse" (the mayor's family): Is it mute, or is it accented, i.e.,
> should it be pronounced "tri-KAS" or "tri-ka-SAY"?

Neither. It sounds like the "e" in the English word "given", something
like "tri-KAS-suh". Note that the "a" in "Van" is pronounced as "a" in
"car", and not as "e" in "bed".

I'll send you a complete list of pronunciations in private, it's not so
interesting for all Forum members.

Cheers,
Garmt.
