Of course, that's the way JV would have pronounced the word. If you want
to transliterate the name to Hebrew, there are two strategies: either you
adopt the French pronunciation, or you transliterate it the way the name
would have been pronounced by Van Tricasse himself (VAN Tri-KAS-suh).

I don't know how (if) the name "Jan van Mitten" has been transliterated to
Hebrew (or Greek or Russian). Here you would get the same problem. I guess
the French would pronounce "Jan" as "Jean", all final "n" as nasal "n",
and stress the last syllable in "Mitten". In Dutch, the "J" sounds like
"y" in "you", the "n" are not nasal, and stress is like "MIT-ten". It's a
Dutch name used by a French author in a French text: what is the correct
way to pronounce it?
