Jan,

this work is well known to the german vernians ( its published 1934 not 1933).
But it isn't the first work about Verne in german language. In 1873 the first translations of his works were published in german, and secondary textes were published at least from 1873 as well. A translation of the interview of Adrien Marx (1873) was published already in the same year in "Ungarischer Lloyd", Budapest, No. 49 . Original german written text I know from 1909 at least (Biographie of Max Popp, "Julius Verne und sein Werk", 1909). But especially the german edition of the Weichert - Verlag (from 1901) contained introducing textes with sometimes litte analystic style.
Another scholarly work, from Hans Bachmann, "Das englische Sprachgut in den Romanen Jules Verne's", is dated from 1916.
In the moment I am not shure if earlier works exist.

Regards

Bernhard

I would like to ask, particularly German Vernians, whether they know following book (I know it only by the title):
Gerda Schmokel: Die Belebheit des Stills in der Darstellungsart des Jules Verne (Beslau 1933)
Am I right to consider it the first scholarly work on Verne's writings? It seems that Germans were far ahead in appreciating Verne and his work (beginning in 1874).
