The latest "languages" post did not include the number of different languages
vs editions in each language. I don't think there are 1500 separate
languages, so there must be some fudging on the "most translated" idea. That list
notwithstanding, my Sherlock Holmes group, WelcomeHolmes, has informed me that the
bibilographer Ron De Waal has listed 62 languages plus Pig Latin ( and this
was some time ago) for the canon of the Sherlock Holmes adventures. Avid
translation collector Don Hobbs states at the web site
www.Sherlockpeoria.net/manicCollector that there 82 known languages into which the Sherlock Holmes canon
has been translated (thus not counting English). Doesn' t this rate A. Conan
Doyle in the top ten? David McCallister (with a foot in each camp)
