I guess the question here is: "Is a bad (inaccurate) translation better
than none at all?"
Because of the Evans' translations, I learned that there were many Jules
Verne novels I had never heard of. While it was not the start of my Verne
collection, it certainly gave me the opportunity to expand it. I do try to
replace the Evans' editions whenever possible, but some of the titles are
still the only English translations available.
In this case, I would say that an inaccurate translation was better than not
at all.
