as far as I know copyrights are valid only for 50 years. But you better wait for a confirmation of somebody who knows it better then me...

Subject: Image copyrights, again
Dear colleagues,
The question of copyright permissions has been raised by an editor considering an article I have submitted for possible publication. I believe that this concern has been raised on the list before, but I would like to confirm my memory of the conclusion of list participants at that time.
Am I correct in assuming that permission is no longer needed for reproduction of images from the Hetzel illustrated editions of the _Voyages extraordinaires_ published prior to 1904 (i.e., 100 years ago)?
Regards,
TH
