Dear Zvi, Dear all,
it is good to give such an information to the vernians - not everyone is a "philatelist" and knows about this problem. I knew about it and also about an existing website, but missed the link. So thank you for that. I've never heard about piracy - products of german stamps in recent times, but it is interesting to see that Germany is NOT participating at this site. Poor provement for Germany, but confirming to me again how we are going down the drain...
Best regards
Bernhard

Subject: Illegal Jules Verne Stamps
Dear Vernian Friends,
In the last two years, the Internet is flooded by sellers of illegal stamps.
Jules Verne theme seems very popular among these illegal issues, and you may
easiily guess why. To fight this flood, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and
the World Association for the Development of Philately (WADP) have created
a data base, the WADP Numbering System, or the WNS, located in
<
http://www.wnsstamps.ch>, which registers all the authentic postage stamps
issued by UPU members since 1 January 2002. I myself became a victim of this
fraud and few of the stamps I bought through Internet sources and present in
my site are indeed fakes. I am not removing them from the site. Instead, I
marked them with a skull and cross-bones, with a link to the data in the WNS,
to say: Beware! Pirates! I feel that still more stamps in my collection should
be marked the same, but I am not sure. The problem is that with these newer
stamps, you cannot check in the established catalogs, and the forgerers count
of this difficulty. Now with the advent of the new data base, I hope it will
be harder to fall in their trap. Please visit
<
http://www.upu.int/philately/en/upu_combat.html> to read more about UPU's
combat against illegal issues.
Best,
Zvi.
