Hello everybody!

Keraban-le-Tetu, or "Den envise Keraban" as the book
is titled in the Swedish translation was published
here (in Sweden) for the first time just a few years
ago. I suppose this translation is pretty good, and
following the original version in the matters Garmt
described.

It is striking how much humor Jules Verne used in this
book. Just after a few chapters, I had a strong
feeling of how good this book could be as a movie. At
least, I wish BBC could send Michel Palin for a travel
in the foot-steps of Keraban and van Mitten!

There could be some error made in this swedish
translation, when it comes to the telegram. The
word-play (that makes the misunderstanding) doesn't
feel reasonable in the Swedish translation.
Unfortunely I can't really understand the original
text either. :-)

I guess the theme of marriage comes from the situation
of theatre. You have the "divorce" of van Itten and
his wife, it is Keraban who fear marriage, and it is
the young Ahmet who is in love up to his ears! Jules
Verne did use the theme of marriage and love in a
number of plays; I think most about comedys as "Onze
jours de siège" and "Monsieur de Chimpanzé".

Beside this: Thank you Garmt for sharing the
background information about Hetzels in-put of the
ending of the story.
