I recently picked up a DVD issued last year by DIC of a new animated
version of 20K. I have to say it is the best version, by far, in that
medium I have seen. It simulataneously makes the story accessible to
children while preserving the purity of Verne's narrative and harshness of
characterization and situation. This despite the fact there is a girl in
it--which will put off some of you before you even know how she fits in,
although I'll maintain that her insertion into the narrative ideally
serves the needs of the intended audience. Highly recommended, about 75
minutes, not to be confused with other animated versions, such as
Hanna-Barbera.
