Dear All,

These are Verne’s notes, written in the Irish Sea:

mercredi 27 mars. / Côte d’Émeraude, suit toute la journée — / Mer crémeuse,
houleuse, vert sale — grande brise / Nombreux navires — steamers dépassés /
Repas nombreux / Queenstown — flotte des pêcheurs — navires de toutes
dimensions — orgue, piano — les feux. / Remonte dans O.N.O. / Un steamer
gagné main sur main — propentis [sic : Propontis] / Hurrah — à bord

And here is the summary/translation
(http://www.ibiblio.org/julesverne/articles/pb%20intro.pdf):

Wednesday, 27 March [1867]. Emerald Coast, follow [sic] the whole day—creamy
sea, squally, dirty green—stiff breeze / many ships—steamers overtaken /
frequent meals / Queenstown—fishing fleet—ships of all sizes … the beacons
[of Cape Clear and Fastnet Lighthouses] / sail up to WNW

Dear friends,

Sailing on a pleasure yacht in the Irish sea is one thing, being passenger
on a super big liner an other one.

I have answered only from the yachting point of view, and i confirm that,
from his personnal notesbook, Jules has never been in Ireland, neither in
the irish sea.

( I add that even during the scottish expedition, the St Michel III sailed
on the East coast only).

Considering the Great Eastern adventure, the only way to affirm some thing
based on real source is to read the notes book Jules took on the liner.

So, as the general meeting of the CIJV will be on the next 13 of march, i
will have a look in the carnets at the Amiens Library.

I will keep you inform if there was any call or stop-over at Queenstown.

Best regards

Ph. Valetoux
