Firstly, I must apolgise for my recent lack of entries. I have been
spending too much time looking around this machine and getting to know
the crew a lot better although trying to get a "handle" as Ned calls it
on Captain Nemo is proving almost impossible. Just when I think I am
getting closer to the truth of who he is and why he built such a
machine, along comes something else that throws all my theories back
into the melting pot.

For instance, two days ago we were moored in the Red Sea and the
Captain came to the same place as me and I naturally assumed he would
ignore me. Next thing I know, he's offering me a cigar and starts
talking about the merits of the Red Sea and before I knew where I was
we were holding a deep theological discussion about the Exodus of Moses
from Egypt. I am beginning to wonder if the man can ever be understood.

Another suprise I got was from this box of tricks. The day previous to
that we passed Mocha City and I noted that it seemed to be heading
towards rack and ruin. I decided to see what this box had to say and it
replied "Mocha City : cited in prior report filed in 1872". Four years
from now, I thought to myself and being naturally curious I decided to
read said report. The report was filed by a M. Phileas Fogg (not a name
I instantly recognised) who passed the city heading in the opposite
direction to us on board a ship called "Mongolia" heading towards Aden
in British Yemen on some hare brained scheme to travel around the world
in eighty days. Lunacy, I call it myself, here we are some four months
after being picked up by the Captain and we're not even a quarter of
the way round it yet (mind you we have taken the scenic route). Still,
I was very intrigued by M. Fogg's report and think that when (or rather
if) we leave this machine I'll be very tempted to pay him a visit.
