A 17 page summary of US Copyright may be found on the library of congress
web page "lcweb.loc.gov" under copyright. From comments there the Verne
illustrations are notin copyright in US unless certain conditions are
met. 75 years is not mentioned. Current proposed revisions to copyright
law would extend the copyright period to the life of the author plus 75
or 100 years, which would make 2005. rather a long time to wait.
All previous public domain books would be re-copyrighted. Further
information on these revisions are in the THOMAS directory in the LOC web
page. See project Gutenberg home page for long pitch.
