I beleive the question was about JV's short story ``the blockade runners'' (in
French - Les Forceurs de Blocus). Why don't you read it from by collection in
http://www.math.technion.ac.il/~rl/JulesVerne/abu/blocus.txt (French) or
http://www.math.technion.ac.il/~rl/JulesVerne/virginia/blockade/ (English) ?
For bibliographic detailes, cf.
http://www.math.technion.ac.il/~rl/JulesVerne/biblio/stories.html

Jean Jules-Verne, in his JV's biography, writes:

"The Blockade Runners, published in 1865, was written some years earlier
than that, at a time when Verne still hoped to find inspiration and moral
support in a woman. Captain Japes Playfair runs the Yankee blockade during the
civil war. Originally, his plan involved trading wepons for cotton; but under
the influence of Jenny Halliburtt, with whom he falls in love, his main aim is
to spring Jenny's father from his Confederate prison in Charleston. Not content
with this, Jenny sets out to convince the young Playfair of the rightness of
the anti-slavery cause to which she subscribes, demolishing his arguments with
fierce logic yet with the sweetness of smiles. Playfair is soon won to her:
`This brave girl is mistress of my ship. If Jenny asked me to throw our entire
cargo of contraband overboard, I would do it for love of her.' Finally, he does
not hesitate to risk his life and the lives of his crue to implement her plan.
And the stroy ends in a marriage."

Best regards,

Zvi.
