Dear Tim, dear members,
I certainly in favor of your suggestion. This is perhaps my fault, as I didn't
wish to ``censor'' the Forum correspondence. However, every message which is
longer then 40,000 characters is bounced to me by Majordomo, the list server,
and I have to approve its transmission to the members. It happened twice in the
last two days that much longer messages, in the order of magnitude of 250,000
characters, arrived, and I approved them, reluctantly, I have to admit. In the
future I suggest that people don't send files to the forum, unless they are of
a moderate size, and that they just offer in their message to send the files to
those who request them. If I get messages of exceeding length, I'll edit them
by removing the attachment and adding a remark that an attachment was removed,
and people who wish to get this attachment are asked to contact the sender.
I hope that this arrangement is satisfactory. If you think I am wrong in this
decision, please let me know. On one hand, I want the correspondence in the
Forum to be completely free, but on the other hand, I don't want to hurt people
by sending huge mail messages. BTW, in my web page there is a special
depository, www.math.technion.ac.il/~rl/JulesVerne/forum/private/, which is
intended to deposit such files, and if needed, you can upload files to
ftp://www.math.technion.ac.il/pub/rl/ or send them to me as an attachment and I
can deposit them for you in that place so you can just announce their existence
to the forum without the need to mail them everywhere.
Best wishes,
Zvi.
