There is probably a lot wrong if you compare it to Kravitz translation or
the original. This is probably the Victorian original, as the same name
Cyrus Harding appears in my 1920 Scribners version with the illusstrations
of N.C. Wyeth. Probably the translator could not bear to have his hero
named "Smith", a name not highly regarded and often associated with gypsies
in England. ..The "Jules Verne Encyclopedia" may have information as to the
translator.
