I hope Lowell Bair's 1994 translation of "The Mysterious Island" is not a
reprint of his 1970 edition. This is a quotation from Taves' and Mickaluk's
"Jules Verne Encyclopedia" (page 150). "Bair's (1970) work is hardly a
translation, but instead an adaptation, a sort of running synopsis of Verne's
work." I am looking at my copy of Bair's 1970 book as I write this and I
completely agree with this description.
