I any of you live in a city, or live near a city that has a "World Stage"
festival, then do yourself a favour and be on the lookout for the following
production.

>From Santiago, Chile, the theatre group "La Troppa" is presenting "Journey
to the Center of the Earth" or more accurately "Viaje al centro de la
tierra" (though my program only mentions the Spanish title once!)
The play is presented in Spanish, but don't let that hold you back, as it
was performed in Toronto with simultaneous English translation, via
"infra-red" headsets!

It is presented as a comic fantasy (with emphasis on the adventure) and is
surprisingly faithful to the novel. There are only 2 actors, who play "Ax
el" and "Bottom Livestock", and the play tells the story from the finding
the old manuscript to being blown out of the volcano!
The staging is marvellous, using 1 main prop that looks like a steam
engine, that they use effectively as a carriage, Otto Lidenbrock's study, a
train, the rocks they have to climb over, etc!

This is simply marvellous, and you should watch for them! I have no idea
where they are going next!

....Andrew
