Here is an 'computer translation' of my opinion about Verne CD Rom***
I wrote this one year ago... I don't use this Cd from this time...

Here are a few hours that I explore ' Jules Verne' S Legacy', a multi-media

application carried out by Jean Verne, Hugues Blondet and David Palissier
(Multi-media Hachette)... All that is in French in spite of the quite
strange title
(I consulted my dictionary to know what wanted to say ' Legacy'; Why an
English title for out of French CD?)
A remark to start... At the price of the software, one would like to have a
packing
 a little prettier and functional than one limps out of soft paperboard
which will not
 resist ten openings... One would have liked to discover these CD in a
beautiful
ECRIN way Hetzel, one is entitled to a soft paperboard with the colors baby
girls
(** I think it's a bad translation of 'couleurs pisseuses' ;o)
 (desolé, I do not find a term more suitable)
 " Here is a packing whose Bozerian, Closs or Purgold had not been proud! "
would
 have written Jules Verne.

Fortunately, with the launching of the software the things are arranged...
As of the sequence of introduction one feels that a particular care was
taken to the visual
and sound aspects. It is besides the principal success of the software.
Many original graphics (on the whole 23 illustrators!) are often beautiful
and even
sometimes superb. A priori not of original musics but the quality of the
reproduction is
excellent and especially the texts are truly interpreted by 16 actors.

Navigation in the software is less happy... It seems that ALL works of
Verne
(with share poems only some is quoted) have an input. On the other hand,
one falls above a little randomly from navigation without that appearing
really logical.
A priori, there is not average to reach directly has a work... ALL works
approached!?
Yes, and paradoxically, it is perhaps the weakest point of this
realization...
The number of CD-Roms should not make illusion... There is three CD but it
seems
well that 90% of the contents are due to the great sound quality (and so
much better)
strong consumer of Mega bytes! One is frustrated to see such or such novel
reduced to
a summary of a small page and a sometimes successful animation but much too
short
(a few minutes at best). In this connection it is significant to announce
that the texts of the
Voyages Extraordinary DO NOT MAKE parties of the DS because that is not
very clear
 on limps.

In the same way, the part a little pompeusement called ' Encyclopedie'
shows its limits quickly.
The texts are qualities (and the authors also: Daniel Compere, Olivier
Dumas, Simone Vierne etc...)
but quite short (perhaps act does of summaries?) Thus, having seen an input
on Jules Verne
and Herge, I fall on a text certainly interesting but which raises more
questions than it does not
 give answers. And all the analyses are seems it also short. Too bad...

The part ' biographie' offers same qualities and weaknesses. One can visit
the Michaelmas III
and my faith it is nicely made! But one is vaguely disappointed because the
felt impression is
 that one flies over more than Jules Verne is explored.

Another defect, most significant, of this realization is that the authors
completely forgot the
 dimensioned ludic one (and even interactive). In fact, there is sometimes
the impression to look
at television while being satisfied with clicking (?) to pass to the
following sequence. The Universe
of Verne is however préterait perfectly with the play! Admittedly one must
well here or to solve
it a enigma but the solution is ridiculously simple and that falls like a
hair in soup. Moreover,
I will not be surprised if from here a few months, would leave a video
version this realization!

Good but enough criticisms! The unit is nevertheless amusing and I did not
see time to pass
 while exploring these CD Rom. In any case this software makes me think
that the intersection
 between the Universe of Jules Verne and data processing is rich
promises...
And especially, it gave me desire for reading again Verne! Isn't this the
main thing?
