What are the Horne editions and when were they done?
Would not the Dover edition of HECTOR SERVADAC (TO THE SUN / OFF ON A COMET)
have been based on an old copy? Dover usually reprints old PD books rather
than generate new ones. I have not seen the Dover edition of this book so
I don't know about the source material.
Keep in mind that the issues of U.S. copyright law are complex and older
materials not only had to be registered but they also had to be renewed
after 28 years to maintain their protection. This may not apply to the
Horne editions as I know nothing of them and they could be quite recent.
However, merely editing an existing older work does not generate a new
copyright. Making a new translation could, however. What are we talking
about here?
