Verne books>

Thanks very much for providing this list.

Can you suggest a good English translation of Les Enfants du
capitaine Grant (IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS)? I'm reading it in
French (online) and thought my wife would enjoy reading it in
English, but as it turns out, the online Gutenberg text (Parke
ed.), is not very good. Cuts all over the place -- sometimes
several paragraphs at a time -- and some mistranslations as well.
It is better than nothing, but it certainly doesn't do Verne
justice. What would be the one to get in English?

There's a discussion of this in the archive from last May, in
which three editions are mentioned -- Routledge, Lippincott, and
Arco -- none terribly enthusiastically. Is the Gutenberg (Parke)
version a different edition of one or another of these?

BTW, I bookmarked the Gutenberg ed. nevertheless, warning my wife
that it was rather extensively cut. Her reaction? She said,
"Well, judging from what you've told me, those are the parts I'd
skip anyway!" Ah, well. :)

Best Regards,

-- Ernie Sjogren

P.S, -- I'm enjoying Les Enfants immensely -- it's one I haven't
read before. And as I'm new to the list I take this opportunity
to greet you all and to say that it's delightful to have found
others who enjoy Verne's work. (My thanks to James Keeline for
steering me this way.)
