The other day I was at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, and checked
the library to see what if any of Verne was on the circulating shelves.
(darn little it turns out is left). While browsing the shelves my eye
caught sight of a red covered book, embossed, and about the same size (6x9
") of an early Hetzel. On opening the book I found what appeared to be a
completely tongue in cheek mimic of "5 weeks in a balloon" right down to
the type face used, the same fuzzy paper turning brown with age, the same
repartee (lots of dit's and repondit's), and Chapter headings reminiscent
of Verne's style. Chapter I "UN ACCIDENT D'AUTOMOBILE"
I have taken the liberty of enclosing 2 pics of the title page and page one
of the book.
Of course I may be reading more into this than there is, could be that all
books were printed this way. Also says third edition 1913, which might make
the first before 1909--pretty early for 5 weeks
