explanation of "Virus Alert!"

Dear friends,

A brief explanation about the "Virus Alert!" message I sent out earlier.
Last night I received a curious file in my e-mail called "Pretty Park"
supposedly from someone I knew. I opened it. My Norton Anti-Virus
immediately kicked in, shut down my computer, and eliminated it. But
apparently this "worm" managed to send itself to a number of people in my
Outlook Express address book before it expired. So, to be safe, I sent that
alert message to everyone--including the JV Forum--who was listed in my
address book. I then emptied the address book of all names, disconnected
the "auto-add" feature from my e-mail, and did several anti-virus scans
(with different products) to make sure my computer was clean.

It is important to note that the members of the JV Forum have nothing to
fear. Although the JV Forum was one of the addresses affected, Zvi
intercepted this "Pretty Park" message before it ever got to the JV Forum
server and he destroyed it before it was distributed. Thanks, Zvi!

It is also important to note that this "worm" is not vicious--it will not
harm the files in your computer. But it does attach itself to the address
book in your e-mail, and sends itself to everyone listed therein every 30
minutes or so. So it is rather annoying, to say the least!

So, I guess the lesson from all this is to be very wary of opening ".exe"
files sent to you via e-mail--even if they appear to be from someone you
know! Sorry for the scare.

Best,
Art
