Art Evans has pointed out that some of the Pulp Publications books bear the
name of Jules Werne. It is a sign of globalization that English texts will
be typeset, composed, or whatever the current term is, in the lowest cost
part of the world. We can assume from the name Pulp Publications, Ltd that
this publisher is an unidentified offshoot of some English publisher. Also
it makes sense that the composing of the text will be performed in a low
cost part of the EU. That means the former Ostzone of Germany. Now assuming
that the compositor had never heard of JV, the choice of Werne was not too
bad. At least it was phonetic, to his ears. His alternatives were Jules
Fern, Jules Phern, Jules Phyrne, Jules Phürn, etc. So now we may have a
new author Jules Werne!, whose works will be prepeptuated in databases
throughout the world!
