Regarder de tous ses yeux

Dear fellow Vernians,

I'd like to come back to a question asked by Christián some time ago about
Michel Strogoff (whether "Regarde de tous tes yeux." is a fixed expression.)
There is another occurrence earlier in the book:

In Chapter 4 "De Moscou à Nijni-Novgorod", Alcide Jolivet is (re-)introduced as
follows:

"... Ce voyageur -- évidemment un étranger -- regardait de tous ses yeux et
faisait vingt questions auxquelles on ne répondait que très évasivement."

It seems that the expression actually is kind of fixed. But I couldn't find it
in the CD-ROM version of the XIXth century "Littré"...

Kind regards,

Ralf Tauchmann
