Dear friends,
Yes, it's true that _Le Superbe Orénoque_ and _Bourses de voyage_ are not
science fiction novels, and that _L'Invasion de la mer_ is only (very)
marginally so. But I managed to strike a deal with Wesleyan UP to include
these Verne titles anyhow. Originally, I proposed to them a "Jules Verne
Series," but they thought the scope of the new series should be much wider.
So I changed it to "Early Classics of Science Fiction" to include not only
Verne but also a variety of other early writers. They accepted this revised
proposal.
Currently under consideration for this series--in addition to those
untranslated Verne novels I mentioned--are the following:
TRANSLATIONS
- Ted Baxter's translation of _Voyage à travers l'impossible_

- The Science Fiction of Arthur Conan Doyle
If you have any suggestions for the series--Verne or non-Verne--please
contact me at above e-mail address. I will make sure that it is considered.
Our general criteria are as follows:
- significant works of pre-1940 science fiction, with emphasis on those
works not currently in print or those for which scholarly editions are not
available.
- "science fiction" defined very broadly: e.g., to include utopias,
imaginary voyages, alternative histories, etc. but not horror or
Tolkien-type fantasy.
- "scholarly editions": 20-25 page critical introductions,
annotations/notes, bibliographies (primary & secondary), and other appendix
material as warranted.
I hope to hear from you!
Best,
Art
