Gerry--I have to disagree with you that it is necessary for publishers "to
sacrifice the bottom line in an effort to keep Verne in print." Publishers
are not charitable institutions, and we need not appeal to the better
angels of their nature. There's money to be made on Verne--after all, he
is one of the best-selling authors of all time in the world. As
knowledgeable Verne buffs, members of the Forum can steer publishers to
try something new--as you mention, publication of a translation of Les
Freres Kip--but we need not procalim such a project is non-commercial.
Quite the contrary--the right publishers, directing their efforts to the
right markets (ie, libraries, collectors, to name two), can find such
ventures profitable.
