How to rebuild?

I'm trying to write a novel. Don't know if it will be published in this
moment, but it is a fantasy story having place in 1866 and regarding Jules
Verne, of course: imagine a sort of adventure never reported before, with
villains and police inspectors, and Jules as active part in the plot. I do
not want to say more for now.
My big problem is to revive the year 1866 and around as being there. I ahve
all information about Jules Verne at the epoch, of course, but I cannot
imagine some more mundane things. For example:
1) How much was the value of a "franc" in 1866, compared with the life of
today? This is crucial to give prices for example. How much is a fortune,
and how much is needed for a piece of bread?
2) Because the adventure is part in France and part in UK, how many francs
was a Pound at the epoch?
More:
The metric system was not used I think: what was used in 1866?
Electrical applications were barely known in that year: how were working
doar bells? Manually pulled?

So I would be absolutely grateful if someone could give to me any info about
the topic matter, and/or Sites, or Books where I can complete this
information.
