Journey was serialized by Frank Leslie's Chimney Corner in 1873; the Chimney
Corner was a weekly literature periodical out of New York. Journey covered
about 40 weeks during 1873 with all the illustrations that Scribner
Armstrong used the following year.
In the late 1860s there was a very abbreviated version published by an
American periodical that was little more than an abstract, but had 5 or 6
illustrations (from the French). The Jules Verne Encyclopedia mentions both
of these periodicals.

Forum members,
Do any of you know of articles discussing Verne's popularity in
America. I am especially interested in the reception given Journey
to the Center of the Earth when it first appeared in the US in 1873.
Was it serialized? If so, by whom? Did anyone besides Scribner
publish the novel, etc.? Any references you can give will be
appreciated, but if you have written such an article and can send an
offprint I would be especially grateful.
Thank you for giving this matter your attention.
