A recent article in the New York Times revealed that global warming has
reduced the ice season in Hudson's Bay to 7 months a year, (from a former 9)
and that international shipping is now using the port at Fort Churchill for
5 months a year. This balmy clime is somewhat different from that described
in the above book! I have also heard that farmers in Manitoba/Saskatchewan
now grow two crops per year due to the extended season.
