Dear Annette,
I suppose that Bill explanation referred to his translation, not to Jules
Verne's work. The latter is certainly in the public domain. There are also many
translations in the public domain, one of them is entitled "JOURNEY INTO THE
INTERIOR OF THE EARTH" (English translation by Frederick Amadeus Malleson
originally published by Ward, Lock & Co., Ltd., London, 1877). It is in the
public domain, and it is freely available on the net thanks to the efforts of
Norman Wolcott. See
http://JV.Gilead.org.il/wolcott/CE-allc/ . As Norman
explains, "This version is believed to be the most faithful rendition into
English of this classic currently in the public domain". Note that the
online version mentioned in Bill's email is not free, but will cost you at
least $9.95 (one the minimum subscription: "Your subscription begins at the
time of registration and ends a full 7 days later. If you have only one paper
due in a short period of time, this is the option for you"). It is cheaper to
buy the book from an online store! Anyway, the choice is yours.
Best,
Zvi.
