Sean,

You'll find the web site of the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham at:

http://www.sealife.co.uk/sl.taf?pg=birmingham&lang=uk

Birmingham is easily accessible from London by train (about two hours from
London Euston to Birmingham New Street Station), and also has its own
airport, with an associated rail station Birmingham International which
links to Birmingham New Street. From there, it's a ten minute walk to
Brindleyplace, where the Centre is located.

As it happens, it's set in the newest and most prosperous part of the city,
on the redeveloped canalside, surrounded by theatres, bars, hotels etc. I
was lucky enough to walk straight out of the door and into Birmingham Jazz
Festival, which was being held nearby.

Birmingham International Airport's web site is at: http://www.bhx.co.uk/
and it has transatlantic flights to and from New York (Newark and JFK) and
Chicago, as well as flights to and from most European destinations. This
makes it, in many ways, a better stopping off point than London for travel
to Europe. The hotels are cheaper too :-)

By the time you get here, the new Discovery Centre, a large science and
industry museum, should be finished - their web site is at:
http://www.discoverycentre.org.uk/ and this would be an essential place to
visit, as Birmingham and the Midlands were at the heart of the Industrial
Revolution. The Discovery Centre is part of the Millennium Point science
and technology site, which includes an Imax cinema.

If you do decide to visit, I'd be happy to show you around the city centre
sights. Meanwhile, if you'd care to email me your home address I can send
you a leaflet about the Sealife Centre.

Stuart

Sounds like a place I would like to visit there next summer on a tour of
Europe (UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Norway ???). Any other suggestions on
marine aquaria or Verne-style museums would be appreciated.
