The Organising Committee

The Jules Verne Society of Great Britain would like to formally announce the
formation of its organising Committee.
Effective immediately, the line up is as follows:
Hon. President: Dr. William Butcher of the Institute of Education, Hong
Kong.
Chairman: Mr. David Cook of Leeds, England.
Secretary and Treasurer: Mr. Stuart Williams of Bloxwich, England.
Editor: Stuart Williams (as above).
This Committee will have an official term of two years, after which
elections will be held. Although the Committee is officially in office as
of today, the term will in future begin on the birthday of Jules Verne, 8th
February. This date will become the beginning of our administrative year.

Meetings
========
The JVS(GB) will hold two official meetings each year. One will be formal,
conference style, on or about the birthday of Jules Verne, 8th February.
The other will be 'roving' and will be held at a different venue each year
in the Summer.
The first formal meeting will be on or about Friday 8th February 2002, venue
TBA.
Other meetings/events will be organised on an ad hoc basis, and it is hoped
to eventually include 'Extraordinary Voyages' such as hot air ballooning,
trips overseas, railway journeys, geological excursions etc once membership
has reached 'critical mass'.
Membership
==========
While the group is primarily aimed at British Verne enthusiasts and
scholars, we are delighted to accept overseas Members in the spirit of
international friendship. A PDF Membership Form is available from the About
Us page on our web site.
Membership fees are as follows:
UK £15 (15 UK pounds) Europe £20 (20 UK pounds) Worldwide £25 (25 UK
pounds).
Cheques must be in Sterling drawn on a UK Bank, and should presently be made
payable to A.S.Williams. A Society Bank Account will be set up shortly.
Members will receive 4 Newsletters (A4) and 1 Journal (A5, booklet form)each
year for their Membership Fee, plus a Membership Card and access to our
Members' Forum eGroup. Attending meetings and events will incur an
additional fee to cover venue etc costs if applicable.
Correspondence to the Society should always include an s.a.e. or if overseas
2 International Reply Coupons.
Founder Membership & Launch Newsletter
======================================
Members joining before the first meeting will be eligible for Founder Member
status.
They will receive a special Founder Membership Certificate in addition to
the other Membership benefits, and in addition a special Launch Newsletter
which will be a Limited Edition individually printed and numbered on
acid-free paper as a collectors item celebrating the launch of the Society.
This Limited Edition will cease production on 8th February 2002 and no more
will be printed thereafter. Presentation copies of the Launch Newsletter
will also be sent as gifts to our fellow Vernian clubs and societies with
whom we are in contact overseas.
The Launch Newsletter is in preparation and should be available in early
August 2001.
The Journal will be published annually on Jules Verne's birthday and
contributions are invited. It will also be presented to our fellow Vernian
clubs and societies as above.
