Another point that I forgot to mention concerns the river Cassiquiare.

Verne says that this river comes from the Amazone basin, and flows into
the Orinoco (vol.2,ch.5). Britannica, however, claims that 'below the town
of Esmeralda, some of the waters of the Orinoco flow south into the
Casiquiare River', which in turn 'combines with the Guainía River to form
the Negro River'.

Verne's mistake, or was this simply not known in 1894?
