In an interview (I don't remember which one) Jules Verne stated that he
did not believe in Darwin's theory, and that 'Le village aerien' is not
intended to support it. The Waggdis are more of a degraded kind of human
beings.
Another story that might seem to reflect Darwin's theory is 'Famille
Raton', a curious short story explicitly called 'Conte de fees' (fairy
tale). It is difficult to tell how this story relates to Verne's beliefs
regarding Darwinianism. At any rate, the metempsychosis that occurs in
'Raton' is not really evolution!
