Then you should certainly read Verne's essay on Poe (see

Some trivia:
- Verne, who didn't read English, read Poe's stories in the French
translation by Baudelaire, under the title 'Histoires Extraordinaires'.
Verne's novels carried the generic title 'Voyages extraordinaires'.
- The missing day that is the clue to Around the World in 80 Days, was
inspired by Poe's Three Sundays in a Week.
- There are a couple of Poe elements in La Jangada (The Giant Raft),
including explicit mention of The Gold Bug.
