Regarding the origins of Journey to the Center of the Earth:
A writeup about Dinard on viamichelin.com includes the following quote:
"Another regular on the Emerald Coast was Jules Verne, who stayed at the
Villa Le Grondin, between Dinard and Saint-Lunaire. And, while modest
compared with the great mansions of the Pointe de La Malouine or the Pointe
du Moulinet, the villa allowed him to travel round the world and journey to
the centre of the earth."
A footnote then explains:
"A fissure in the granite cliffs of Dinard is said to have inspired his
Journey to the centre of the earth."
