There does not seem to be an adequate public domain xlation of Mysterious
Island. On the other hand according to the Kravitz/Butcher intro to their
Mysterious Island, the Kingston translation os not all that bad. The main
problem being the omission and bowdlerization of a few sections. If someone
could indicate the offending sections, I am sure we could fill in the gaps
with a more faithful translation, including it in brackets [ improved text
here] and then give it to Project Gutenberg as a new public domain xlation.
If anyone is aware of where the bad sections are, I will be glad to shepherd
the new version along to PG. This is no substitute for the Kravitz xlation,
but it would be good to get the improved version into PG where it gets ide
distribution.
