Looks like my high school science recollection wasn't quite right. Leyden
wasn't a Dutch scientist, but a city in Holland where the Leyden jars were
developed. These glass jars had some type of tin foil in them and could
hold an electrical charge.

Sounds like Verne might have used a variation on this for his "glass
electrical bullets."

Again, my high school science recollection isn't the best so if anyone can
be more definite, please go ahead.
