Dear Friends,

I have recieved the following message from our friend Krzysztof Gucwa in
Poland. I have put the pictures, 7 jpeg files (averaging 85k bytes), in
http://JV.Gilead.org.il/forum/private/gucwa/ . It will be much easier to you to
browse them there (Don't forget to pick-up a password, if you are one of the
few that didn't!). I thank Krzysztof for sharing the events with us. Keep up
the good work!

Best,

Zvi.

Dear Friends,

During this week an exhibition has been taking place at our school.
I am showing to the general public :-)) books written by Jules
Verne.

My collection is not a big one - it takes up just 2,5 meters of the
bookshelves, but it would be impractical to put all the books on display.
I am showing books as well as films, post marks and... fish in an aquarium
(20 thousend leauges under the sea) and a balloon-shaped lamp shade.

Tomorrow - 31th January - it is the 140th anniversary of the publication of
the Verne's first well-known book - "5 weeks in a balloon". And on the 8th
February it is 175 anniversary of J.Verne's birth.

There is a short link and a piece of information on the web page
www.zsme.tarnow.pl . Look for a round button with Verne's portrait, please.

Last Thursday - 23. January - the Head of the Municipal Culture Department
arrived to open the exhibition. There were television crews from the
National
Television from Cracow and from the local cable TV, as well as a couple of
journalists (Gazeta Krakowska, Saturday, 25th January, local pages).
The local radio stations have broadcasted announcements, too.

Next month the exhibition will be moved and it will be on display in the
Blue Gallery in the Municipal Library of Tarnow (Krakowska Street -
www.biblioteka.tarman.pl) To that event we have invited the president of the
city - Mr. Mieczyslaw Bien.
The city's web-page can be found here:
http://www.tarnow.pl/tarnow/ang/um/index.php

In the attachment I am sending a few photographs. They were taken with a
credit card size digital camera when the lighting conditions weren't good -
that's the reason their quality isn't too good.

During last Thursday and Friday there were crowds of our students visiting
and watching
the exhibition - as all of them wanted to skip the classes. The winter term
ended on Friday.
Now that it is winter holidays time, here in Poland, the classrooms and the
exhibition is quiet and empty. Just a few people come to see the books every
day.

And it is funny - I started enlarging the collection on the 3rd of May last
year when I went to bookshops in Bardejov to find some printed in Slovak.
Some foreign languages books were bought in Dabas last September and some in
Banska Bystrica last October. These books are all on display.
All Jules Verne fans are invited to take part in the opening ceremony on
February 20th.

>From Tarnów best wishes to you all
Krzysztof Gucwa
