Bill,
I dont think there was ever a Castle Malcolm in the area. The Malcolm Clan did not have their base in Lomondside. The clan has its headquarters at Duntrune Castle, just north of Crinan ( and which is mentioned by Verne in Le Rayon Vert, though this was written at a later date). I suspect, that since the Colquhoun family would still be famous and powerful at the time Verne was writing, Malcolm Castle would have been an invented name to have avoided direct reference to the family home. Regard this a hypothesis!
Ian.
