It's true that women are rare in Verne's novels. But there are a few
strong female characters:
- Paulina Barnett (Pays des fourrures)
- Nadia Fedor (and Marfa Strogoff!) (Michel Strogoff)
- Helena Campbell (Rayon vert)
- Hadjine Elizundo (Archipel en feu)
- Dolly Branican (Mistress Branican)
- Jeanne de Kermor (Superbe Orenoque)

I could add some others like Aouda, Helena Glenarvan, Mary Grant, Nell,
Hulda Hansen, Bridget Morgaz, Cornelia Cascabel, Louise Elissane, Lissy
Wag, Jenny Zermatt, Ilka Nicolef, and many others, who are not heroins in
the full sense of the word, but are still major characters.

There have been some discussions in the forum on this topic. See for
example http://jv.gilead.org.il/forum/1997/01/0045.html

Best regards,
Garmt.
