I guess that the main reason is that 1962-1974 was also the golden
age of space conquest. Almost every week new satellite and manned
vehicle were sent into space or returned. Information about all these
events was largely given (newspaper, radio, TV, periodicals, books
...). The peak of interest was of course, in France as every were in
the world, a certain 19-20 of July 1969 ...
