I think starting to look for FACTS in FICTION is rather dangerous. Verne wrote fiction for entertainment, which he did perfectly well. He also successfully spiced his writings with an abundance of facts, but this doesn't mean he can be criticized for stretching things here and there. I would hate to see Vernians and Verne fans ending up somewhere like "Baker Street Irregulars."

I can criticize JV as well as anyone can, say like shooting men from a gun in From Earth to Moon, but we really can't be sure that the balance fish never ever appeared in the Clyde Estuary. Current and temperature conditions may have been different 130 years ago.
