REPLY: Oh, one more note from the Cohen book -- that argues that another
source of this is American anxiety over the imminent Spanish-American War (many of
the Mystery Inventor theorists speculated such a person would come forward by
some spectacular demonstration like bombing Havana from the air.) This of
course is another parallel to Cold War interpretations of sky sightings, plus
other forgotten cases like WWII sightings of "phantom missiles."
