The Resurrection of Dr. Ox

Just now running the search "Ox Offenbach" on Google turned up the surprising
news that Paris's Athenee-Theatre Louis Jouvert performed the Offenbach
operetta last November (and, in fact, if I'm reading them right, a touring company
only finished with that property this month!) This is appearently part of an
annual tradition to dust off one of Offenbach's neglected titles for modern
audiences.
While there were appearently no plans to have recorded this rarity, alas,
just reading the text material is of course very interesting. For instance, this
confirms that Offenbach invented a love interest for Ox himself in a "Princess
of Transcaucasus" (one suspects Aiouda in 80 DAYS has as much to do with
this as Offenbach's own taste for comic-opera royalty.)
