Perhaps because of the forthcoming film?

GF issued some of the most popular of JV's books about 25 years ago,
although in a different series from this one: I have a paperback Voyage au
centre de la terre (chronologie, introduction, archives de l'oeuvre par
Simone Vierne, 1977), not illustrated, which has held up well. Very
readable typeface. From a search at the company's website, it looks like a
few books in the older series are still available.
